NORTHERN Ireland and Eimear’s wish
Stormont Castle.
With the Lord Mayor Micky Murray.
Dame Mary Peters
Radio Belfast.
We finally got chance to meet Sean Smyth in Belfast. Sean and his wife Sinead suffered the loss of their 19 year old daughter Eimear to complications post stem cell transplant in 2019. Sean has dedicated his life since to raising awareness of stem cell donation in Northern Ireland where he lives. Two charities working toward the same goal on different sides of the world!
Sean arranged for a visit to Northern Irelands parliament house, Stormont Castle, to speak to health ministers and hopefully to stimulate debate amongst those with the power to make change in the UK.
Then it was on to Belfast town hall where we were shown round before attending a presentation of awards to local sporting elite. A chance to meet Dame Mary Peters, Olympic Gold medal winner in the Pentathlon in 1972.
The next day we gave a Radio interview to Radio Belfast.
Hopefully the trip helped to give a little impetus to Sean’s drive to raise interest in registering on the stem cell donor registry.
P.S. Thank you for hosting us Sean!!
